DMT SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Measures cloud condensation nuclei (CCN) using a supersaturated column and optical particle counter

  • Continuous flow, single supersaturation

  • Supersaturation as low as 0.07%

  • Cylindrical geometry reduces size and buoyancy effects

  • Vertical thermal gradient

  • Continuous wetting

  • Multiple bin optical particle counting (20 size bins)

  • Onboard computer control and data logging

  • Set up for airborne or ground-based applications

  • 28 VDC power, 15 A

  • Rack mountable, 28 kg weight (single column) or 38 kg weight (dual column)

  • System includes CCN instrument, test cables, shipping case, software, one day of training at DMT's facility, and one-year warranty

  • Technique has been developed and patented by The University of California, San Diego, and licensed for production by DMT

CCN Software:

The CCN comes with customized software, which allows users to configure the instrument settings quickly and easily. For instance, the program can be used to:

  • Change supersaturation settings

  • Change temperature settings

  • Change the sample air flow

  • Manipulate instrument pumps (e.g., turn air pumps on high to prevent condensation)

  • Quickly detect any operational problems

  • Update instrument calibration parameters

  • Adjust the instrument to prepare it for shipping or re-humidify it after shipping

  • CCN software also performs data collection. Information gathered during sampling sessions is written to output files that can be viewed real-time and played back later for detailed analysis.

In addition to this instrument-specific software, the CCN interfaces with DMT's Particle Analysis and Display System (PADS). PADS allows the user to analyze data collected from the CCN and other DMT instruments simultaneously.
